The creative arts, especially music have always been a part of my life. Growing up there was always live or recorded music. I started doing concert booking and promotion for the Berkeley Jazz Festival when I was a student at the University of California. My first job after college was in commercial radio broadcasting.
I enjoyed conducting interviews, programming music and producing. I had the privilege of working with creative artists ranging from Miles Davis to Bob Marley...and many other great global talents in between. I also worked in television, but radio has always been my favorite broadcast medium because it allows one to use the imagination.
However, I received the greatest pleasure working in non-commercial broadcasting--Public Broadcasting, community radio and television and college stations--hosting jazz programs, teaching and doing development work to obtain funding for these public stations. The other communications-related area I derived enjoyment from was working as an Independent Public Relations and Marketing Consultant. Professionally I also did recording, film editing, script writing, production and film management work. In my free time I enjoy creative writing. I have just completed a screen play and a poetry anthology. I still host jazz radio programs from time to time.
I have a keen interest in and fascination with communications and technology, particularly the Internet and the World Wide Web. My entry on the superhighway, my venture into cyberspace occurred in 1993, when JDS Communications started offering information research and retrieval services. Shortly after its launching, JDS expanded and added online marketing and advertising services.
In March of 1996, smitten by the music bug, JDS started developing Jazz, Roots, Rhythms (JRR), and had it up and running by the end of April. Response to the site has been great, and JRR is constantly working to create, innovate, stimulate, educate, activate and create global communication and participation.
At this juncture we are very happy that Jazz, Roots, Rhythms is an award-winning web site. And equally, we are terribly excited about having entered into a collaborative web site venture with BlackWorld. It is a site we highly respect, one that we feel provides an awesome amount of marvelous content and has a great global vision...one that we're proud to be a part of.
Jazz, Roots, Rhythms is pleased that the future looks optimistic, bright and wonderful for BlackWorld and JRR. And, we are looking forward to having the opportunity to work with BlackWorld to present, to share with you, the highest caliber of gorgeous, wonderful, marvelous talent, information...and inspiration.
