An Open Letter to My Learned Friend.  Has Dr James Watson opened a Pandora's box?

Recent comments made by Dr Watson were broadcast through the media in the UK where I first heard it. Least to say, these comments were most disconcerting and distressing for most people, whether black or white. Incidentally a learned friend of mine in Bristol wrote me to discuss my views. I thought I'd share my brief colloquial response here on Blackworld and perhaps see what others are thinking with regards to Dr Watson's comments and new book. It's always a great pleasure to meet and have intellectual debates with you and other forms of socialization to improve our friendship. This Dr Watson theory is particularly interesting because it is being raised at a time when I believe human kind is about to experience GNR profoundly, as the next stage of evolution in human history. Dr Watson's ideas or empirical research if this is the case is not entirely without merit. What is missing in my opinion is what indeed has been missing through out the history of modern human civilisation, most specifically in the last 2000 years. Least to say, getting to this stage of human advancement has been extremely aggressive. By that I mean, advanced intelligence albeit leading to some human prosperity, one could argue if you decipher the historical facts, that advanced cognitive intelligence also appears to ultimately lead to nihilism, destruction and may be if we are not careful...extinction! Therefore what is the point?

It would be too easy for me as a black person for instance, to empathise with human exploitation resulting from "intelligence" ...I would think more critically, are the bleak problems that we now face on earth as a result of human advancement e.g. "Climatic Issues" or "global terrorism" that now confound us all. I suppose India and China could use their new founded "intelligence" to great detriment, as us Europeans did previously. After all, they will need more natural resources to advance their communities economically and indeed scientifically. Through this process, they already have nuclear and pathogen intelligence, hence they naturally become "adversarial"...not very comforting for geo politics. Perhaps African's will also one day wake up and realize it is their turn to awaken the giant within and pursue the same goals..even if it is just to make a point! After all, most of the resources are right there on the African continent anyway!

Either way, it appears to me that the future of human existence particularly in the most advanced societies is now doomed! ... Ironically because he has not found a clever way to manifest intelligence in order to benefit the entire human race and its environs. Instead, these intelligent discoveries thus far and throughout history have mostly led to conflict, fascism ideas, annihilation and eco-destruction. Surely there have been some good things, but that only came after "Mass Murder" (slavery, holocaust, apartheid etc.). So I can see why the science museum condemned Dr Watson's statements and cancelled his engagements. They claimed his ideas were dangerous. Maybe they realise we are all very vulnerable and not so intelligent at management after all.

I yearn to see the day when all these institutions i.e.. academic, religion, science and economic institutions, understand that ultimate global stability and the coherence to evolve harmoniously, greatly depends on if they fully understand that every component no matter how micro or un-intelligent as it were, has a role to play....and that in itself is intelligent design. For now we don't get it!

I'd love to further this debate with you when next we get together....these are interesting times indeed!
