Name Alison Harding Buchanan Alison Buchanan, originally from Bedford, England graduated from the Guildhall School of Music where she won many prestigious awards. |
She was the 1991 winner of the Maggie Teyte Competition and gave
a recital in the Crush Bar of the Royal Opera, Covent Garden as
a result of the award. Shortly thereafter, the young artist received
a Wingate Scholarship and Countess of Muster award enabling her
to study at the Curtis Institute of Music, where she completed
her master of music degree. Ms Buchanan was also a prizewinner
of the Washington International Competition (1995), the Kathleen
Ferrier Competition (1996), and was a finalist in the Belvedere
competition (1997). |

Ms. Buchanan recently completed her Adler Fellowship with San Francisco
Opera. The young artist made her 1996 debut with the company as
Mimi in La Bohème. During the 1996-97 season. Ms. Buchanan covered
the role of Micaela in Carmen and went on to great acclaim. She
also appeared in Harvey Milk, Aïda, Death in Venice, Rigoletto,
Elektra and covered Mathilde in William Tell and La Contessa in
Le nozze di Figaro. Other highlights as an Adler Fellow where replacing an ailing colleague to |
sing the role of Mozarts Countess and subsequently repeating
this part in Western Opera Theaters national tour of Le nozze
di Figaro, a critically acclaimed Schwabacher Debut Recital and
role of Julianna in the 96 Showcase production of The Aspern
Papers. She also performed Blanche in a workshop for San Francisco
Operas new commission A Streetcar Named Desire, working closely
with the composer, Maestro André Previn. |
In 1996 Ms. Buchanan joined Placido Domingo and Franco Zefferelli
to cover the role of Nedda (I Pagliacci) for Los Angeles Opera.
She also sang in the 1986/87 acclaimed Glyndebourne production of Porgy and Bess and covered the role of Clara in the 1992 Royal Opera House, Covent Garden revival. Future engagements include concerts with the Oakland-East Bay Symphony, The Flanders Philharmonic, and the Bellevue Symphony. |
